Endless plains, year-round big cat sightings and the Great Migration in Tanzania's most famous national park.
City · Tanzania
Dar es Salaam is Tanzania's largest city and its main port on the Indian Ocean. It is the arrival point for travellers heading to the southern and western parks, including Nyerere (Selous) and Ruaha, and a connection point for Zanzibar by ferry or flight.
The city mixes colonial-era buildings, markets, fish stalls and a lively seafront. The National Museum, Kivukoni Fish Market and the beaches north of the city make for a short visit, and Msasani Peninsula has hotels and restaurants.
Many travellers stay a night in Dar es Salaam when arriving or leaving, particularly when combining a safari with a beach extension on Zanzibar.
Dar es Salaam is hot and humid all year. June to October is the driest and most comfortable period.
We do not have a published safari for Dar es Salaam yet. Tell us your plans and we will build one.
